In March 1997, Hacienda HealthCare., a nonprofit program for medically fragile infants, children, and young adults recognized that there was a gap in the medical supply business. Smaller organizations, as well as individuals, were not able to take advantage of the greatly discounted prices on medical supply and incontinence products and nutritional supplements offered by many of the large medical supply companies. They were forced to pay retail or near retail prices. Because of the significant buying power Hacienda HealthCare had with its vendors, an idea was formed to give back to the community and provide affordable medical supplies. This idea came to life in the form of South Mountain Health Supply.
